Paddle Punk
Branding • Identity • Apparel
Paddle Punk is an athletic apparel company that aims to create a niche of paddle and pickle players in the Boston community together. With a little snark and humor, Paddle Punk envisions to helps players to feel cool, edgy, and confident while playing on the court.
I worked with them to help create a brand identity that they wanted as cool, fun, and abstract that is able to keep the snark, the humor, and the edge of Paddle Punk. The goal was to create a brand that would attract both players and non-players to the sport of pickleball and paddle.
Exploration
We explored a variety of different ways that the branding and logo of Paddle Punk, alternative Pickle Punk, would look. By looking at other sports and apparel brands, I created a variety of different aesthetics, themes, and motifs and packaged them into different mood boards to better understand the end goal of the project.
We went through each step of the way to discuss the needs of the brand, the logo, and the message of what Paddle Punk was trying to accomplish. By the end, we had chosen the “Play Paddle, Punk” Moodboard that highlights a more streamlined, slick aesthetic to match the energy of Paddle Punk.

Logo Designing
After researching and having many discussions about creating a logo and a mark that would be abstract yet cool, I created multiple different variations. One thing emphasized during the process was the desire for the mark to feature the initial of the company, the letter P, or even both initials. I created a variety of different aesthetics, marks, and logos that might capture what it would be to be punk, cool, or bold.
Branding the Punk
After working through a mark and logotype, we worked on creating some colors, accents, and font choices that help match the energy and vision that the mark and the company wanted to express. We went with the classic colors found within pickleball and paddle, as well as a black and white look to help accentuate the punk-ish motif.

Punk Black
Paddle Yellow
Pickle Green
We also chose the font Futura and Nitti Typewriter, as they help create a sleek streamlined style while having some edginess and roughness that brings together the idea of punk to the mix.

It’s Time to Paddle, Punk
By the end of the project, we created a more cohesive style for Paddle Punk, as well as an alternative one for Pickle Punk, aimed at pickleball players. Here is the final product, alongside some mockups throughout the page of how the logo and brand would come together.
